A Liverpool player was chastised for making a “stupid” decision during the Wolves game.
Trent Alexander Arnold of Liverpool has come under fire from Gary Neville after receiving a booking for postponing the game on Saturday.
The Reds had an amazing opportunity to leapfrog Premier League rivals Arsenal and Man City and put themselves on top of the table against Wolves at Molineux Stadium.
Following their stunning victory over Bournemouth last week, in which Arne Slot fielded a fairly offensive lineup, it took the visitors until first-half added time to open the deadlock.
Picking up the ball on the left side, Portuguese striker Diogo Jota delivered a perfectly precise cross into the box, which was met by Ibrahima Konate’s head, who blasted it into the ground and past the custodian.
Wolves did, however, fight their way back into the game after the break, but the lead was short-lived, with Mohamed Salah scoring from the penalty spot six minutes later to make it 2-1 and cement Slot’s win.
However, the referee book Alexander Arnold after just six minutes for kicking the ball away and delaying the restart.
Speaking on commentary, Neville chastised the English defender for getting himself booked so early in the game.
“Referees are now all over this particular rule because of the publicity around it, he stated”.
Due to the application of this rule, Arsenal has already suffered this season. Declan Rice and, most recently, Leandro Trossard have both been punished for delaying the restart.
