Chelsea Football Club faces a suspension threat with duo on thin ice ahead of crucial Liverpool clash.

Chelsea fans will be hoping for a positive result against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, but winning three points isn’t their only concern.

This is because two of Chelsea’s best defenders are on the verge of suspension. If they each receive a yellow card, they will miss the important match against Liverpool following the international break.

Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana have received four yellow cards each this season. This puts them each one caution away from a one-match suspension.

Given the importance of Chelsea’s trip to Anfield on October 20, every tackle by Cucurella and Fofana will definitely have Chelsea fans on edge this Sunday.

The Chelsea duo aren’t the only ones playing on tight ice this week; Fulham’s Sasa Lukic, Ipswich’s Sam Morsy, and Newcastle’s Joelinton are all in danger of punishment.

Despite being big favourites for their encounter with Nottingham Forest, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have kicked off the season on a high note.

Forest have only suffered one lost so far, with two victories and three draws under their belt.

The Midlands team is outperforming expectations, now in ninth place. They have already pulled off a massive shock this season, defeating Liverpool 1-0.

Chelsea has also begun well this season, sitting fourth just a few points behind first-place Liverpool. The Blues have played some spectacular, fluid attacking football under Maresca’s direction, scoring seven times in their last two games.

Maresca, who joined Chelsea in the summer after coaching Leicester, will be hoping his team can maintain their momentum as the season progresses, with the club firmly aiming for a Champions League position.
