Jesse Bam Rodriguez’s impressive knockout victory is anticipated to propel the youngest boxing world champion up the pound-for-pound rankings.
The youngest world champion in the sport crowned himself a king last Saturday night as he knocked out Juan Estrada.
Rodriguez was already champion at flyweight and super-flyweight in previous years as he interchanged between the two divisions.
Rodriguez, who is now 24-years old has earned his best win to date on his return to 115lbs.
Bam started well in the fight and put Estrada down with a magnificent combination in the fourth round.
Jesse Bam caught himself in round six and experienced knockdown of his own for the first time in his career.
In the next round, Rodriguez found the perfect body shot to flatten Estrada and leave him rolling around on canvas.
As a result, Bam was expected to rocket up the pound-for-pound rankings after his win over Estrada.
Estrada was also a unified flyweight world champion in the past, but Rodriguez got up off the canvas to KO Estrada.
Rodriguez was already ranked as the ninth best boxer in the sport by Ring, but is now the top five.
Rings Editor-in-Chief-Douglas said that, Bam is going to get more than a one sport jump in Ring’s pound-for-pound ranking.
Fans also responded to a tweet asking where Rodriguez deserves to be placed in the new rankings.
A second fan said: I’ve got him fourth or fifth, but he is on a collision course with Junta Nakatani at 118lbs eventually.
Another fan added that, Jesse Bam is improving at a fast pace despite being a fantastic technical boxer.
Rodriguez has added in body of work and he’s between fourth to sixth and will be first at some point.
Oleksandr Usyk is still pound-for-pound king.
