Liverpool: Jarell Quansah and Ibrahima Konate likely to sign new contracts, while the ‘big three’ wait continues.
Liverpool are apparently in talks with both Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah about new and improved long-term contracts.
According to several publications, a new deal for Quansah is nearing completion and might be announced during the current international break.
Since making his first-team debut away at Newcastle in August of last year, the England Under-21 star has rocketed up the Reds’ ranks.
He has made 35 senior appearances and scored three goals, and a salary increase is likely to reflect his importance in Arne Slot’s squad.
Quansah started the new Premier League season away against Ipswich, but was replaced at half-time by Konate, who has since made the position his own, guiding early leaders Liverpool to the best defensive record in the league.
With only two years remaining on his present contract, the Reds will be aiming to secure the French international for the peak years of his career and avoid the scenario they are now in with Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and, most concerningly, Trent Alexander-Arnold.
All three players are nearing the end of their current Anfield contracts, and as talks continue, Alexander-Arnold has been linked with a free transfer to Real Madrid next summer.
