Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was fired, and Ruud van Nistelrooy was named temporary coach.

The Dutchman has been under considerable criticism in recent weeks, and Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at West Ham proved to be the last straw.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has been named temporary manager as United look for a new head coach.

Ten Hag departs United in 14th place in the Premier League table, seven points behind the Champions League berths after only three wins in nine games.

According to a Manchester United release, Erik ten Hag has resigned as manager of the Manchester United men’s first team.

Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the team to two domestic titles: the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

We thank Erik for everything he has done while with us and wish him the best of luck in the future.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will take over as interim head coach, assisted by the current coaching staff, until a permanent head coach is sought.

Ten Hag leaves United after two and a half years in command, having won the 2023 Carabao Cup and the FA Cup last season.
